OFFICIAL CATEGORIES — CINEMODAE

CINEMODAE’s official categories recognize diverse ways of exploring fashion through imagery, cinema, creative direction, and visual storytelling.

Each category celebrates a distinct approach to the world of fashion, placing particular emphasis on originality of concept, aesthetic development, art direction, audiovisual execution, and the ability to transform an idea into a memorable visual experience.

MAIN CATEGORIES

Each category highlights a different approach to visual creativity and storytelling. All share the same fundamental principle: the conceptual strength of the work and the central role fashion plays within it.

I · FASHION

Fashion at the center: garments, collections, and design as the protagonists of the image.

* Designer Fashion and Haute Couture

Garments and collections rooted in couture, tailoring, or designer-led fashion, where the construction of the garment lies at the heart of the narrative.

Example: A fashion film following the making of a dress, from the initial sketch to its appearance on the runway.

* Emerging and Contemporary Brands

Audiovisual presentations of prêt-à-porter collections, streetwear, or independent brands with a distinctive aesthetic identity. Includes accessories, jewelry, and footwear brands.

Example: The launch of an emerging brand’s capsule collection told as a short film.

* Conceptual Runway

Runway shows transformed into narrative experiences or audiovisual performances.

Example: A runway show telling the story of the evolution of the body and femininity.

- AWARD SYSTEM

Judging panel: A fashion panel comprising designers, stylists, and fashion editors.

Evaluation criteria: Garment design and construction (30%) · Concept and narrative (30%) · Audiovisual execution (25%) · Originality (15%).

Outcome: Three nominees and one winner will be selected in each category. The three category winners will compete for **Best Fashion Film · Fashion**.

II · FRAME

Where fashion engages in a dialogue with cinema and music: audiovisual language in the service of fashion.

* Film-Inspired

Recreations, tributes, or visual reinterpretations of iconic films, with fashion at the heart of the reinterpretation. Includes narrative fiction works in which costume plays a central role.

Example: A work that reinterprets *The Great Gatsby* from a contemporary perspective through its costumes.

* Music and Performance-Inspired

Works inspired by musical genres, artists, lyrics, music videos, or musical performances.

Example: A fashion film inspired by experimental pop or Rosalía’s aesthetic.

* Fashion Documentary and Portrait

The processes and people behind fashion: portraits of designers, workshops, backstage environments, and behind-the-scenes processes.

Example: A portrait of an artisan dressmaker and their workshop, or a behind-the-scenes look at an editorial production.

- AWARD SYSTEM

Judging panel: A mixed panel of fashion and film/audiovisual professionals.

Evaluation criteria: Prominence of fashion (30%) · Reinterpretation of the source material or strength of the narrative (30%) · Audiovisual execution (25%) · Originality (15%).

Outcome: Three nominees and one winner will be selected in each category. The three category winners will compete for **Best Fashion Film · Frame**.

III · COVER

From concept to publication: fashion designed to be seen, published, and marketed.

* Magazine Editorial

Fashion productions conceived for magazine covers and editorial pages, in photography, video, or hybrid formats.

Example: A video editorial created for a digital magazine cover, built around an original concept.

* Brand Campaign

Brand or product storytelling with a strong and distinctive aesthetic identity.

Example: An audiovisual production for an emerging brand or an accessible-luxury concept.

- AWARD SYSTEM

Judging panel: An editorial panel comprising creative directors, magazine editors, and brand specialists.

Evaluation criteria: Aesthetic identity and coherence (30%) · Concept and storytelling (30%) · Visual execution (25%) · Publication potential or commercial impact (15%).

Outcome: Three nominees and one winner will be selected in each category. The two category winners will compete for **Best Fashion Film · Cover**.

IV · FUTURE

Experimentation, technology, and awareness: exploring the future of fashion imagery.

* Experimental Fashion

Artistic proposals that challenge the conventional boundaries of fashion. Includes speculative visions of the future.

Example: The use of recycled materials, visual effects, or body art.

* Digital Fashion and AI

Digital garments, virtual fashion, and works created or assisted by artificial intelligence, guided by a clear authorial vision.

Example: A collection of 3D garments that exists only on screen.

* Conscious and Sustainable Fashion

Works that incorporate sustainability, upcycling, responsible production, or a critical perspective on the fashion system.

Example: A fashion film about a collection made entirely from reclaimed textiles.

- AWARD SYSTEM

Judging panel: A mixed panel of fashion, technology, and sustainability professionals.

Evaluation criteria: Innovation (30%) · Concept and narrative (30%) · Execution (20%) · Alignment between the proposal and its purpose (20%).

For the Conscious and Sustainable Fashion category, a brief note on materials and production processes is required. The jury may verify this information.

Outcome: Three nominees and one winner will be selected in each category. The three category winners will compete for **Best Fashion Film · Future**.

V · CRAFT

Recognizes the work of the individual crafts that shape an audiovisual fashion image. Styling and Costume leads the list because it is the craft most closely connected to fashion.

* Styling and Costume — The creation of the look and its coherence with the concept.
* Creative Direction and Concept — The overall vision, the central idea, and the unity of the work.
* Art Direction and Set Design — The visual worlds, atmospheres, and spaces that frame and support fashion.
* Photography and Cinematography — Lighting, framing, camera work, and movement.
* Makeup, Hairstyling, and Character Design — The transformation of the face and character.
* Editing, Color, and Sound — Rhythm, editing, color treatment, and soundtrack.

AWARD SYSTEM

Submission: A work entered in a main category may also be submitted to up to two Craft categories, provided that the person responsible for each role is credited.

Judging panel: Small panels of two to three specialists per discipline will evaluate only the contribution of the relevant craft.

Evaluation criteria: Coherence with the concept (30%) · Quality of execution (30%) · Originality (20%) · Contribution to fashion on screen (20%). The production budget will not be considered.

Outcome: Three nominees and one winner will be selected in each category. The award will go to the person or team credited for the relevant role, not to the brand or overall director. A work may win in Craft even if it does not win in its main category.

VI · NEW TALENT

A category group dedicated to emerging creators, where artistic potential, directorial vision, and conceptual ability are valued above previous experience.

* Best Emerging Fashion Film

The strongest work by a creator at the beginning of their career.

* Emerging Direction

Creative vision and leadership.

Emerging Styling and Costume

The creation of looks and the development of a distinctive aesthetic universe.

- AWARD SYSTEM

Eligibility: Students, recent graduates, or creators with fewer than three years of professional experience in the role for which they are applying.

Judging panel: A mixed committee comprising jurors from the other category groups.

Evaluation criteria: Artistic potential (35%) · Concept (30%) · Execution (20%) · Originality (15%).

Outcome: Three nominees and one winner will be selected in each category. The winner of Best Emerging Fashion Film will compete for the **Grand Prize**, alongside the winners of the four main category groups.

CINEMODAE aims to discover the emerging voices that could shape the future of fashion imagery.
